Theatertreffen Theater Festival Begins

13th-24th May 2021, online

Theatertreffen Theater Festival Begins

Theatertreffen, one of Germany’s most important theatre festivals, will take place online this year.
We will be able to follow it via the Berliner Festspiele Digital platform (an experimental digital stage). The introductory greetings of the German Minister of Culture Monika Grütters and the festival directors Yvonne Büdenhölzer and Thomas Oberender will be followed by a live streaming of the performance Simply the End of the World, directed by Christopher Rüping from Zurich's Schauspielhaus. This is the first in a series of ten performances that will be shown in live streams or in the form of footage over the next ten days.

In addition to the performances in the competition program, they will also present pioneering digital theater formats dedicated to the position of theatre creators in a pandemic. They will include a series of expert talks, and will also focus on the topic of gender (inequality) and abuse of power in theatre.

Theatertreffen has established itself as a juncture for theatre creators and theatre enthusiasts from all over the world. It is a platform for networking and conversation as well as an open space for theatrical art. It will conclude on May 24.
